Neurosurgeon
Professional Experience Details
Flinders Medical Centre
Adelaide, South Australia
I am currently working at Flinders Medical Centre as a Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon. In this position I undertake clinical duties, teaching responsibilities and administrative roles.
My clinical work involves both advanced cranial and spinal surgery. My first few years at Flinders Medical Centre were spent as a Fellow, gaining skills in advanced spinal surgery complementing my previously acquired cranial surgery skills. My current clinical duties include equal parts cranial and spinal surgery.
In my teaching role, I am involved in the training of a Spinal Fellow and a Neurosurgical trainee. I also teach and supervise junior medical doctors and medical students during their neurosurgical rotation.
As an administrator I am involved with the development and implementation of clinical guidelines, development of protocols, conducting peer review and audit activities. I also support collection of clinical data for benchmarking and quality assurance. I am a member of the SALHN Trauma Committee which endeavors to provide world class efficient medical services in the Emergency Department at Flinders Medical Centre.
Flinders Medical Centre is a 500 bed public teaching hospital, located on the same site as the Flinders University and Flinders Private Hospital.
I am also in private practice, consulting from rooms at Southern Neurosurgery. I have interests in the subspecialty fields of skull base surgery, epilepsy surgery and minimally invasive spinal surgery.
Christian Medical College
Vellore, India
Christian Medical College, Vellore is a 1700 bed tertiary care teaching hospital in South India which has been established for over 100 years and is consistently ranked amongst the top institutes in India for patient care as well as for academic and research activities.
I commenced training in neurosurgery in 1995 and completed in January 2001. Prior to this I had spent one year in the Department of Anatomy teaching undergraduate Medical students neuro anatomy.
After completing my training I worked as a Lecturer/Consultant in the Department of Neurological Sciences for three years . This department consists of three clinical units and three research units, including Neurophysiology, Neurochemistry and Neuropathology units. In each surgical unit, approximately 200 outpatients are seen each week with an average of 40 inpatients treated. Each surgical unit has a dedicated operating theatre running five days per week with an average of 12 elective and 5 emergency procedures performed per week. During this period I had extensive exposure to a high volume of advanced cranial surgery and basic spinal surgery exposure.
